Central Oregon Chapter The Military Officers Association of
America (MOAA) History & Mission

The Central Oregon Chapter became a chartered affiliate of The Retired Officers Association in October 1981 with 51 charter members and Ed Beeby, CDR, USN, as the first chapter president. The chapter is incorporated as a nonprofit organization under the laws of the State of Oregon and with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.
The objectives and purposes of the chapter as expressed in the bylaws are primarily patriotic and social. Nonpartisan political activity is undertaken where the rights and interests of active and retired members of the military services are concerned. In order to achieve its objectives, the chapter regularly participates in the Oregon Council of Chapters of MOAA, and is associated with the Oregon Council of Federal Retired Organizations (OCFRO). In addition, the chapter supports several local community activities and maintains liaison with, and provides academic scholarships for, four Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps units located at Madras High School, Mountain View and Bend High Schools in Bend (a combined program), Crook County High School in Prineville and La Pine High School.

Membership is open to all commissioned and warrant officers, active and reserve, who have served or are currently serving in one of the military components. This includes service performed as an officer in the US Public Health Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Military retirement is not a condition of eligibility, for membership. Dues are currently $20.00 per year and are due and payable on 1 January. In lieu of dues an initiation fee of $20.00 is payable for new membership. Honorary members currently do not pay dues. Membership checks should be made payable to "COMOAA" (not MOAA). Please do not combine dues payments with other payments to the chapter (e.g. dinner costs or other fees, charges or contributions).

General membership program meetings are held monthly except in July and August. In the months of January through March meetings are held on Sunday afternoons. In the months of April through June and September through December meetings are usually held on the fourth Thursday evening. An annual family picnic is held on a weekend generally in August. The annual picnic is held on a weekend generally in August. The annual general meeting is held in November. Officers and directors are elected at the annual general meeting in even-numbered years, and are installed at the annual Holiday Ball in December. All members are encouraged to take part in all activities. Guests are always welcome.

Officers and directors are elected to two-year terms. They meet as a Board of Directors on the last Tuesday of the month, 1200. Bend Amory. Members and guests are welcome to attend. Any officer or director can provide further information.

The chapter publishes SITREP a monthly newsletter that contains announcements of chapter events and notices of general interest to members. The chapter also has a web site at COMOAA.com, which has a current membership roster and other activities posted on it.

While membership in the national organization, The Military Officers Association of America, is not a requirement for chapter membership, members are encouraged to join. The Military Officer magazine and other information and benefits are well worth the current $25.00 annual dues. MOAA is doing an excellent job representing our interests in Washington, D.C., and merits all chapter members' support.

Please report the death or serious illness of any member, spouse, or other family member to the Personal Affairs Committee Chairman or to the Secretary.

Please provide any additions, changes, or corrections to the Directory of Members to COMOAA PO Box 7826 Bend OR 97708; by telephone to 382-0349; or by-email to Admin@COMOAA.com

WARNING: This directory is published for the personal information and use of chapter members and their spouses. Care should be taken to keep it out of the hands of any person or organization that might misuse it.
